My second year working with partner books at Willowwind, I decided the students were ready to make a hardbound book. The third-sixth grade students took a field trip to the UI Center for the Book to learn about the art of bookmaking. While there, Julia Leonard, and her fabulous staff, led a workshop for the students on making paste paper.
Students spent two weeks creating their books! They illustrated them using watercolors and watercolor pencils. Before going home with their partners, the books were on display at the Iowa City Public Library. Below are their beautiful creations.
