“Persephone’s Shadow” by Buffy Quintero (UI PhD student in Interdisciplinary/Arts Education) and Jennifer Shook (UI PhD candidate in English and The Center for the Book):
Through shadow puppetry, sand art, music, and poem collage, this piece follows the mythic figure of Persephone into the Underworld, and into the many poems that cast new light on this old tale. Persephone speaks to loss, but also rebirth. And what if she chooses her fate, or how to live within it, as we all must for the seasons to continue?
This piece was performed at Public Space One at the Works-in-Progress Festival, Owl Glass Theatre, Keokuk and Keokuk Gallery, and at the University of Iowa “Craft, Culture and Critique Conference”, and at the UI Art Education Graduate Art Exhibition.
